Eurasec says Customs Union to be set up in early 2010

A unified customs union between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, will be established in the first half of 2010, a secretary general of the Eurasian Economic Community (Eurasec) said on Friday.
Last October Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan signed a package of agreements comprising the legal basis of the Customs Union, including the formation of a commission, a common customs zone and the order of membership, RIA Novosti reports according to RZD-Partner.
"The main task is to stick to the 2008-2010 action plan for establishing the Customs Union, approved by the leaders of the three countries," Tair Mansurov said.
The creation of the Customs Union is being carried out within the framework of the Eurasec organization, which gathered for its last session in October 2007.
Eurasec is an international economic organization, consisting of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan. Armenia, Moldova, and Ukraine have observer status.
