Reports from China on Tuesday said the country's south-eastern coastal provinces were braced for the for the arrival of the storm, which was expected to make a landfall in Fujian and Guangdong on Wednesday.
The Fujian provincial meteorological observatory issued a warning late Tuesday saying strong winds would hit the southern coastal area and the Taiwan Straits in the following 24 hours. It warned vessels to return to harbor.
Guangdong's flood control headquarters put its typhoon emergency response plan into action late on Monday. It ordered ships to return to harbor and the evacuation of people in low-lying coastal areas.
