Ust-Luga approves expanding Baltic Container Terminal

The residents of Ust-Luga (Kingisepp district, the Leningrad Region) on June 21, 2008 approved the project to expand Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) to 3 million TEU annually.

BCT is the project of National Container Company. The terminal is being built in Ust-Luga port. In 2009 the terminal is going to handle 200 000 TEU, 2010 — 500 000 TEU, 2011 — 850 000 TEU, 2012 — 1.2 million TEU, 2013-2015- 2.85 million TEU.

At present, the construction of two berths of the terminal is about to complete. They will start operating in full after the delivery of equipment in May-June 2009. Over 50% of containers will be exported from the terminal and imported by road, the rest will be delivered by rail.
