The final date by which the Polish government must present its privatisation plans for the Polish shipyards to the EU Commission was yesterday on 26 June. If these plans are not accepted, the EU Commission could demand repayment of EUR 1.2 billion in government shipbuilding subsidies, which would force the production yards in Gdynia, Szczecin and perhaps also Gdansk into bankruptcy. This would result in between 80,000 and 100,000 persons being laid off. According to Polish sources, Ulstein is interested in Szczecin Shipyard. However, the company has not submitted an official offer, according to the Polish minister of privatisation. Polish Mostostal Chojnice is also interested in the shipyard and has submitted an official offer. ISD Polska (Donbas) is interested in Gdynia.
