Russian companies scrap 32 sea vessels in Jan-Aug 09
In January-August 2009, Russian companies scrapped at least 32 sea vessels, which makes 3.8% of the entire fleet written off in the world, Transport writes. So Russia holds the sixth position after Greece (139 vessels), China (103), Japan (71), Norway (37) and India (33). As of the beginning of July Russia was the 12th, though, with only 7 vessels written off in January-May 2009.
In August, Russian ship owners got rid of at least 7 vessels, the youngest of them being 30 y.o. and the oldest - 40 y.o.
In particular, Neva Shipmanagement and Murmantransflot sold their refrigerated carriers Crystal Lily and Santiago built in 1978-1979 to India as scrap vessels. Regal Co Ltd and Solfil Navigation sold dry cargo carriers Argus and Fine Star to China while Northern Shipping Co sold its Noble to Bangladesh.
Apart from the above vessels, Nakhodka Active Marine sold its 2 fishing vessels Barit and Kavray to India for $230/250 per 1 LDT.
