Yangshan port box volume down 0.6pc in August
Shanghai's Yangshan port area handled 704,000 TEU in August, down 0.6 per cent over July, Xinhua reported.
Waterway-waterway transshipments came to 349,600 TEU, down 14 per cent over July. International transshipments dropped 9.2 per cent over the prior month to 64,000 TEU.
Analysts said the decrease was caused by Typhoon Morakot in early August. As the regional economy is turning better, the port area's throughput will continue to grow.
In August, Yangshan registered an historic high in its inbound and outbound vessel volume, which rose 2.5 per cent year on year to 606 ships.
