Throughput of Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk down 14.6% to 12.3 mln t in Jan-Sep 09
In January-September 2009, Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk (Ukraine) handled 12.333 million tonnes of cargo (-14.6%, year-on-year), the company administration reports. In September the company’s throughput fell by 14.6%, year-on-year, to 1.402 million tonnes.
September handling of general cargo fell by 25.6%, dry bulk – by 2.1%, liquid bulk cargo – by 0.8 %.
In September, the highest growth was demonstrated in the sector of metal handling (+ 26.2%), vegetable oil (+129.8%), grain (+13.1%) and sulfur (+14.5%).
The steepest fall was registered in transshipment of motor vehicles (-95%).
September handling of containers fell by 62%, year-on-year.
Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk is one of four largest ports in Ukraine. The company’s facilities enable it to handle over 30 million tonnes of cargo per year. The port’s queue line (29 berths) is 6 km long. There three railway approaches and three automobile check points in the territory of the port. In 2008, the port’s throughput increased by 18%, year-on-year, to 18.9 million tonnes of cargo.
