India commits $4bn to 2009-10 port investment
These include the construction of an iron ore and a coal berth at the port of Paradip, a container terminal at Ennore, an iron ore handling facility at New Mangalore, a container terminal at Tuticorin, a bulk cargo facility at Mormugao, a multipurpose berth at Kandla, and liquid and dry bulk berths at Vizag.
Nine of the projects, worth $878m, were deferred from the previous year.
New contracts have already been awarded for this year's allocation: two at Calcutta and two at Paradip. There will also be new container terminal developments at three ports in Tamil Nadu, one in Karnataka and one at JNPT.
