Helsinki port cargo turnover down by 21% in Jan-Sep, 2009
Port of Helsinki (Finland) cargo turnover decreased by 21% (to 7.17 million tons) in January-September, 2009 as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. As per the port’s figures, general cargo transhipment volumes reduced by 28% (to 6.1 million tons), 2.969 million tons of which had been exported (- 29%) and 3.131 million tons transhipped for import (-27%). Bulk cargo turnover increased by 62% (up to over 1 million ton) including that of outbound cargo - by 93% (up to1 million tons).
Containers turnover suffered 20% decrease (to 250 thousand TEUs), rolling cargo volumes fell by 22% (to 309 thousand units) within the period indicated.
The number of vessels in-calls reduced by 19% (to 6 thousand 713 units).
It is necessary to remind that the port’s turnover amounted to 11.856 million tons, as per the year 2008 results.
