Greek cargo ship collide with Ukrainian vessel to sink
Ukrainian and Greek cargo ships collided northeast of the Island of Amorgos in the Aegean Sea center on Sunday, the Greek Merchant Marine and Island Policy Ministry said.
The Captain Mikhalis, a small Greek ship under the Maltese flag carrying cement from Karpathos to Mykonos, collided with the Santana Ukrainian ship under unclear circumstances. The Greek vessel sank, killing a 70-year-old cook. The crew of the Panagia Sumela Greek passenger ship retrieved the cook’s body from water.
The Ukrainian ship with 20 crewmembers, carrying metal plates from Ukraine to Thailand, is headed for the Greek Island of Syros.
