Throughput of port Kavkaz up 8.82% to 5.894 mln t in Jan-Sep 09
In January-September 2009, throughput of port Kavkaz increased by 8.82%, year-on-year, to 5.894.71 million tonnes, PortNews IAA learnt from Taman branch of RosMorPort FSUE. In September the port handled 839,950 tonnes of cargo (-9.56%, year-on-year).
In the 9-month period, the port’s turnover of vessels amounted to 1,874 units including 267 calls made in September.
Port Kavkaz is situated at the border of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov at Kerch Strait from the side of Russia. The port is ice-free, so it is able to handle both river vessels (draft of up to 5 meters) and sea vessels (off-harbor handling of vessels with a draft of up to 11 meters). The port handles loose cargo (mineral fertilizers, ore, grain), as well as general cargo, timber and containerized cargo. In 2008 the port handled 7.028.17 million tonnes of cargo.
