New container company set up in Denmark
The Containership Company (TCC) is the name of a new company set up in Copenhagen, which will pick up and operate container vessels in the present market. “There is a lot of idle tonnage at the moment and we will negotiate with owners of these container vessels to purchase or operate the vessels”, says Jakob Tolstrup-Møller to the Danish newspaper Børsen.
The company is working with a number of investors, and it is believed that Norwegian tycoon John Fredriksen is amongst them. TCC expects to be operative in 2010 if the present financial schemes and negotiations turn out well.
Jakob Tolstrup-Møller and Franck Kayser, both of whom have long experience of container shipping, founded the company. Jakob Tolstrup-Møller is presently employed in the Norwegian brokering company Boxton Maritime. Several years ago, Franck Kayser was a star in Maersk Line, but has lately worked in Scandlines and the French CMA-CGM.
If John Fredriksen is amongst the investors, he continues to invest in container shipping. Earlier he has bought a large share in TUI, the parent company of Hapag-Lloyd, and also a stake in Neptune Orient Lines in Singapore.
