Cargo motorship GT-18 takes the ground in Rybinskoe water storage basin
Cargo motorship GT-18 that was in distress on October 6, 2009 in the Rybinskoe water storage basin in Yaroslavskaya region, sank as a result of the cargo shift, as RIA Novosti learnt from the representative of the RF Ministry of Emergency Situations’ information department.
The incident took place in the Rybinskoe water storage basin at 12:45 p.m. Cargo shift took place under rough weather conditions, gave a lurch and sank, informed the representative.
The fact of the incident is being investigated.
Tuesday daytime, dry-cargo vessel GT-18 owned by SK Povolzhie gave a distress signalwhen proceeding along Cerepovets-Rybinsk route with 400 tons of batten on board. 7 crew members were rescued by rescuers arrived and a civil vessel. They were not seriously injured but for hypothermia. The rescued were delivered to the hospital of Rybinsk. The Ministry of Emergency Situations’ press-service informed, the vessel only partially sank and rested on its side.
