Evergreen re-launches FEM, cuts capacity on TPS services
Taiwan's Evergreen Marine has re-launched its Far East-Mediterranean (FEM) service after closing its US-Asia-Med (UAM) Pendulum service that was established in May 2007.
The FEM deploys nine 5,300-5,600-TEU containerships that were previously operated on the UAM service, reports an AXS-Alphaliner weekly newsletter.
The port rotation for the reinstated FEM service is Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Shenzhen (Yantian), Tanjung Pelepas, Colombo, Ashdod, Alexandria, Taranto, Genoa, Barcelona, Valencia, Taranto, Port Said, Jeddah, Colombo, Tanjung Pelepas, Kaohsiung, returning to Qingdao.
The newsletter said that eastbound port of calls at Taipei and the Japanese ports of Osaka and Tokyo that were included on the UAM service have been removed from the port rotation for the FEM service.
In addition, it said the transpacific leg of the UAM will be merged into a new Asia-Pacific North West (PNW) service jointly operated with CSCL, adding that the PNW service is expected to be launched on October 15.
In other news, Evergreen is reported to be cutting the capacity of its China-California TPS service by 33 per cent.
The newsletter said the five 6,332-TEU vessels used on the service are to be phased out "progressively" between November and December and replaced by 4,200-TEU ships. "It is not yet known if they [the larger vessels] will be shifted to another service or laid up during the low season," it added.
The port rotation for the TPS service is: Shenzhen (Yantian), Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Los Angeles, Oakland, Tacoma, and back to Yantian.
