TransContainer launches service ex Russia to Armenia
TransContainer OJSC included The Republic of Armenia into its freight-forwarding through service. As per company’s press-service, first shipment of containerized cargo within a single through service from the RF to Armenia under OK Russian Aluminum was finished on October 7, 2009.
TransContainer OJSC works in co-operation with South-Caucasus Railways CJSC (SCR) to increase shipment volumes of cargo in containers owned by TransContainer. SCR shall arrange and forward shipments in the territory of Georgia and Armenia and shall carry out cargo reception, restuffing (loading and unloading of containers), cargo and containers storage, preparation of customs clearance documents, terminal cargo handling and freight-and-forwarding services for foreign and local trade cargo under the agency contract.
Having analysed political, economical situation and geographical position of Armenia and investigated freight-forwarding market of Transcaucasus, we found it economically advisable to launch our cargo freight service to and ex Armenia, explained Pavel Sokolov, Acting Director of TransContainer OJSC.
TransContainer OJSC intends to expand its cargo freight door-to-door service into the countries of Transcaucasus and plans to consider the possibility of its representative office in the Republic of Armenia, Pavel Sokolov mentioned in the interview.
TransContainer OJSC that started its business in 2006 handles 60,000 high-capacity containers and 23,000 platforms for their shipments. RZD holds 85% of the company’s shares, European bank of reconstruction and development – 9.25%, Moore Capital Management LLC and GLG Emerging Markets Fund – 2.5% each, Troika Dialog Investments Limited – 0.75%.
