Free Port of Riga turnover (Latvia) up 1.9% within 9 months, 2009
As per the information provided by the port Administration, the Free Port of Riga turnover (Latvia) increased by 1.9% (up to 22 million 367.1 thousand tons) within the first nine months of 2009 as compared to the figures of the corresponding period of 2008. Here belong 14 million 384.6 thousand tons of bulk cargo (0.3% increase), 3 million 053.9 thousand tons of general cargo (19% decrease), 4 million 928.6 thousand tons of fluid cargo (28% increase).
The Free Port of Riga is located on both banks of the River Daugava. The port occupies the territory of 6 348 ha, maritime terminals length amounts to 13,818 м, maximum vessel gauge at the moorage is 12.2 м. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS. 31 stevedoring companies and 40 shipping agents successfully operate at the Freeport of Riga. Main types of cargo handled at the Freeport of Riga are containers, various metals, timber, coal, mineral fertilizers, chemical cargoes, oil and food products. In 2008, the port handled 29.565.90 million tons of cargo.
