Free IMO audit is completed in Russian ports
International Maritime Organization experts completed free audit of the Russian ports, October, 2009. As PortNews learnt from Vitali Klyuev, Deputy Director of the Department of State Policy for sea and river transport of Ministry of Transport, international experts expressed their high opinion on the Russian ports sector. Hemming Hindborg (Denmark), Head of auditors group, pointed out that he himself “had never come across such a high qualification level”, said Klyuev. About 40 countries have been audited by IMO to the date. Members of the group of experts working in Russia took part in 7 such inspections.
As PortNews IAA reported earlier, among other things Russian policy related to navigation security and protection of marine environment from vessels caused pollution, maritime legislation, regulations, and the procedure of adoption of new conventions and of amendments to the existing conventions, private-public partnership, state port control, measures of implementation of international conventions SOLAS, MARPOL, KGM, STCW, Tonnage convention, COLREG, staff training among other things underwent inspection.
IMO auditors made a visit with an inspection to Ministry of Transport of RF, Federal Marine and River Transport Agency, Federal Agency for Transport Supervision, Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage, Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Agenc; FGUP Rosmorport; Morsvyazsputnik, FGUP Administration of Seaport Saint-Petersburg Administration of Seaport Novorossiisk, FGU Gsmorspassluzhba.
Over 60 reports were listened to.
Klyuev said, an official report will be prepared within two weeks. It will be submitted to IMO front-office with a schedule of actions on defects elimination attached. It will be possible to get to know to the contents of this document at PortNews portal.
