MCS OJSC cargo turnover up 11.5% Jan-Sep, 2009
Cargo turnover of Murmansk Commercial Seaport stevedoring company (MCS) increased by 11.5% (up to 11 million 524.9 thousand tons) in January-September, 2009 as compared to the corresponding period figures of the previous year, as indicated in the statistics information of MCS OJSC. Within the period of 9 months, 2009, the port operated 384 vessels 168 of which loaded with coal. 160,000 railway cars were handled, 134,390 ofwhich stuffed with coal. Cargo turnover in September amounted to 1 million 70.9 thousand tons which is almost equal to the corresponding period of the previous year.
Agrosfera CJSC, the affiliate company of MCS OJSC, has handled 36.1 thousand tons of fertilizers in September, 2009.
MCS OJSC was founded in 1994 on the basis of a state enterprise. In its volumes of handled cargo it is the fourth in Russia and the second largest port (after the port of Saint-Petersburg) in the North-West of Russia. MCS OJSC has 17 marine terminals stretched for about 3,000 meters. In 2008 the company’s cargo turnover amounted to 14 million 329.183 thousand tons.
