NCSP Group cargo turnover up 8.1% Jan-Sep, 2009
Cargo turnover of the Novorossiisk Commercial Seaport Group (NCSP) cargo turnover grew by 8.1% (65 million 218,8 thousand tons) in January-September, 2009 as compared to the figures of corresponding period in 2008. As per the press-service NCSP, the total amount of cargoes that demonstrated a positive growth rate recorded an aggregate increase of 8, 712.6 thousand tons, 73.6% of this increase was provided by additional volumes of grain, iron ore and ore concentrate as well as oil products exported via a specialized terminal IPP OJSC.
The aggregate decrease of the cargoes that demonstrated negative dynamics stood at 3,829.7 thousand tons, with 84.0% of this decrease resulting from smaller volumes of handling imported cargoes – containers and cement.
The volume of grain handled during the period of January-September, 2009 amounted to 6,699.7 thousand tons, which is 88.8% more than the volume of the corresponding period of 2008. The share of grain in the total cargo turnover of NCSP Group amounted to 10.3% against 5.9% in the corresponding period of 2008.
Diesel fuel transhipment volume at the terminal of IPP OJSC increased by 29.6% (by 1 million 039.8 thousand tons) within the nine-month period of 2009 as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. It means that new facilities of IPP OJSC put into operation end 2008 work at full capacity to the date, NCSP representative mentioned. Therefore, based on the results of the nine months 2009, the share of oil products in the overall cargo turnover increased from 13.2% to 15.2%.
Объемы перевалки железорудного сырья за январь-сентябрь 2009 года достигли 2 млн 267,2 тыс. тонн, что составило 3,5% от общего грузооборота Группы НМТП.
Iron ore cargo transhipment volumes reached the figures of the pre-recession period: in the reporting period turnover of iron ore grew by 0.4% (up to 6,654.8 thousand tons) as compared to the figures of the 9-months period previous year. At the same time the volume of ferrous metals grew by 28.1% in September current year as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
The overall transhipment volumes of iron ore, seeds oils, perishable cargo and mineral fertilizers grew by 118.6 thousand tons in January-September, 2009 against the corresponding period of 2008.
As per 9-month period 2009 results the volume of containers transhipment amounted to 172.3 thousand TEU. Therefore the volume decrease in comparison to the reporting period of the previous year remains unchanged (38.7%).
Overall volumes of transhipped non-ferrous metals, cement, liquid mineral fertilizers, timber, metal scrap, sugar and other cargoes decreased by 1,516.4 thousand tons in the reporting period as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port is the largest Russian port operator in terms of cargo turnover. Group’s consolidated cargo turnover in 2008 totaled 81.6 million tonnes. Consolidated revenue to IFRS for the 2008 totaled $653.777 million.
