Freight volumes of sea and river commercial ports of the Ukraine down 55% Jan-Sep, 2009

Freight volumes sea and river commercial ports of Ukraine decreased by 55.1% (6.9 million tons) in January-September, 2009 as compared to the corresponding period of 2008, informed Goscomstat of the Ukraine.

Inland waters freight volumes decreased by 61.3%, sea freight – by 46.4%. Foreign freight by sea fell by 54%, by river – by 45.2%.

The volume of handled cargo in commercial and fish ports and in marine terminals (both river and sea) decreased by 16.2% (117.7 million tons). Volumes of import cargo handled decreased by 51.3%, of transit cargo - by 22.3%. Export cargo operations increased by 9.9%.
