Norilsk Nickel to commence coal terminal construction in Taimyr, 2015
Norilsk Nickel OJSC plans to commence construction of marine coal terminal in port Dixon area (Taimyr, Krasnoyarskii krai) in 2015. PortNews IAA journalist learnt from Nikolai Matyushenko, Deputy Head of production development department of Norilsk Nickel OJSC, in the course of I Murmansk International Economic Forum.
As per Matyushenko, the terminal will be constructed to provide shipments of coking coal produced at a new Saradasaiskoe deposit, located 100 km away from Dixon port. The deposit will be put into operation in approximated 3-5 years. The production volume will amount to 3 million tons first year and 15 million tons as perspective. Severnaya Zvezda LLC, an affiliate of Norilsk Nickel OJSC, (created in co-operation with Australian company BHP Biliton) will produce the coal.
Matyushenko explained, construction of a power station, a dressing plant and a fleet for coking coal dispatch are planned to be built in addition to the coal terminal construction. As per his words, about 8-10 vessels of reinforced ice-class, 70 thousand tons dwt will be required.
