SZD cargo turnover transhipped by Arkhangelsk Seaport down by 41%
Volumes of cargo turnover Arkhangelsk branch of North railways (SZD, branch of RZD OJSC) transhipped by Arkhangelsk Commercial Seaport decreased by 41.5% (to 437.66 thousand tons) within 9 months 2009, informed press-center of the main railway. Here belong export cargoes that amounted to 102.54 thousand tons, main export volumes fell onto timber cargo – 25.3 thousand tons and coal – 76.3 thousand tons.
Import cargo transhipment amounted to 291.34 thousand tons in January-September, 2009 including metals import -174.6 thousand tons, earth clay – 106.2 thousand tons.
Arkhangelsk port is located in the Northern Dvina river estuary that falls into the White Sea. Arkhangelsk is the port of year-round navigation. Northern Sea Route is linked to the port. Diversification of the port is reflected in the range of the cargo handled: general cargo, paper pulp, hard paper, containers, timber, metals, fertilizers, heavy-lift equipment, bulk cargoes. Arkhangelsk port capacity allows it handle up to 4.5 million tons of cargo annually. Arkhangelsk port cargo turnover decreased by 34.5% (to 2 million 536.4 thousand tons) within the first 9 months as compared to the figures of the corresponding period in 2008.
