Palmali signs a contract on tankers building with Besiktas Gemi Insaa Anonim Sirketi shipyard (Turkey)
A contract on construction of third range of ‘Armada’ tankers, design RST22M was signed between Palmali group of companies and Besiktas Gemi Insaa Anonim Sirketi shipyard (Turkey) on October20. As per tankers designer - Как сообщает проектант танкеров – Marine Engineering Bureau – vessels of a new range is a logical consequence of design 005RST01 tankers known as ‘Armada’ of first range.
A distinctive feature of designs RST22M, RST22 and 005RST01 vessels is use of screw-steering columns as a single means of movement and steering, absence of fore-and-aft bulk heads in DP, deep-well pumps use.
The vessels are in compliance with dimensions of Volga-Don Ship Canal and Volga-Baltic Route. Length of design RST22M vessel is 139.95 m, its width – 16.6 m, hull height – 6.0 m. The vessels are referred to ‘Volga-Don max’ class.
As compared to the first range of ‘Armada’ tankers those of second range have a better maritime function, deadweight increased by 650 tons in the sea, greater cargo tanks capacity with the same possibilities in river.
Overall capacity of 6 cargo tanks and 2 slop tanks is 8090 m3, deadweight in the sea – about 7050 tons at 4.6 m draught, dead weight in the river – about 4700 tons at 3.60 m draught, speed in operation is 10.5 knots.
Semi-reversible diesel engines of 1200 kW work at heavy fuel IFO380.
Design RST22M vessel satisfies requirements of Russian maritime Register of Shipping KM Ice 2 R1 AUT1 COMBO oil tanker/chemical tanker type 2 (vegetable oil) (ESP) ECO-S.
First range of tankers earlier designed by Engineering Bureau for Palmali group of companies was built at Selah and Ada shipyards (Turkey) in 2002-2006. Modified vessels of the second range, design RST22, were built at Krasnoe Sormovo shioyard (Nizhnii Novgorod) (a part of MNP Group) in 2008-2009.
Ten vessels are to be built within the third range (five plus five optional as stipulated in the contract). It is known there were 10 vessels within first range ‘Armada’, there had to be ten vessels in the second one as well ( but only five were actually constructed for Palmali).
Construction of a new Besiktas shipyard in Yalova (70 km away from Istambul, western coast of THE Gulf of Izmit) was started in 2007 and was fully completed in July 2009 including 235*38 m dry dock, 150*27 m longitudinal slipway and 450 m of moorages. Besiktas is a Turkish financial industrial group comprising a shipyard and a shipping line.
Within 2002-2008 Besiktas group built 17 chemical carriers of 4,300-26,000 tons dwt for Swedish, Danish, French and Italian Customers and as well as for the group’s needs. There are two tankers (chemical carriers) of 18 thousand tons and 27 thousand tons dwt almost completed at the shipyard.
Palmali group of companies is specialized in cargo freight in the Mediterranean, the Caspian and the Black Seas. The shipyard is a big oil and oil products carrier in the rivers of Southern Russia.
