Kotka port (Finland) cargo turnover down by 35.2% Jan.-Sep. 2009
Cargo turnover of the port of Kotka (Finland) decreased by 35.2% (5.69 million tons) in January-September, 2009 as compared to the corresponding period figures 2008. As per the port administration information, box turnover of the port decreased by 46.4% (down to 254 thousand TEUs) within the reporting period. Export cargo transhipment volumes decreased by 22.3% (down to 3 million tons), those of import cargo - by 60.4% (down to 916.5 thousand tons), transit cargo – by 35.9% (to 1.56 million tons).
Cargo turnover of the port is mainly based on lumber and pulp and paper sector units.
The port of Kotka is one of the main export ports of Finland which is a part of logistic hub providing trade between Finland and Russia. Port’s cargo turnover exceeded 10 million tons in 2008.
