Concrete plans for ferry connection Gotland – Baltic States 2010
The Swedish island of Gotland is close to having a regular ferry service also eastwards. The board of the municipality has decided to support a project linking the island’s port of Slite with Ventspils in Latvia and Kuressaare on the island of Ösel in Estonia with SEK 1.9 million (EUR 186,000) during 2010-2012. The ferry owner Gotlandsbolaget has signed a letter of intent with the Freeport of Ventspils covering a ferry service commencing in May next year, The initial plan is for a summer season service. Gotlandsbolaget also has an agreement with Nordstream to use the port of Slite for the traffic. In addition to Gotlandsbolaget, the municipalities of Gotland and Kuressaare and the Freeport of Ventspils participates in the project.
