Hanjin Shipping petitioned the Federal Maritime Commission to allow it to submit a “universal notice” of its pending corporate reorganization into two separate units instead of having to submit a separate amendment for each of it 2,700 service contracts. Hanjin’s board of directors approved the division of the company into Hanjin Shipping Holdings, a holding company, and Hanjin Shipping, an operating company, as of Dec. 1.
Hanjin said in its petition it would provide each service contract shipper counter-party with electronic notice of this corporate change and instructions on how to request preparation of a "formal consent" should one be required.
The FMC has posted Hanjin’s petition on its Web site and requested comment from interested parties by Nov. 16.
