Mr Vasan advised the port management to chalk out plans to meet the shortfall in iron ore traffic during the current financial year.
The port management highlighted the issue of restriction on the movement of iron ore fines through road network. For this, the Minister advised the port to take up the matter with the State Government to ensure revocation of restrictions imposed, so that the iron ore traffic flow to New Mangalore Port will not be affected drastically.
The NMPT Chairman, Mr P. Tamilvanan, explained the various activities, including the construction of coal berth and construction of mechanised iron ore handling facility at the port.
Representatives from Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Steamer Agents' Association, Stevedores' Association, Clearing and Forwarding Agents' Association, and major port users, and union members met the Minister on the occasion.
