The provisional data figures were announced during the meeting of the Council of the Federal Agency of Maritime and River Transport (Rosmorrechflot) held Friday.
The statement said the ports handled 103.7 million tons of dry cargo, or a 14%-percent rise over six month of 2009 and 156.2 million tons of liquid cargo, a 8.2-percent gain.
According to expert estimates, cargo turnover at Russian seaports in 2010 could reach 520 million tons, the Ministry’s report said. In 2010, provided sufficient funding of the ports’ projects it is planned to expand handling capacity to 30 million tons.
Seaborne cargo shipments grew to 17.8 million tons, 1.5% more that in 2009. Short sea trade increased by 17% to 3.8 million tons. There have been a slight drop (-2%) on international lines, 14 million tons.
Trade flows via Russian seaports in 2009, according to the Association of Sea Commercial Ports, gained 9.2% to 496.4 million tons
