There has been a growth trend in nearly all segments of the half-yearly freight traffic, the Department’s statement said. Coal exported volume from the ports of Rostov-on-Don and Azov jumped to 1,770.602 tons (a 2.3 times as much rise from 2009), transit and export volume of sulfur increased to 1,197.020 tons (+ 2.1 times). In the first half of this year there has been a 6.1% growth in oil products transit volume, 1,524.849 tons, versus Apr-May volume slight decline from 2009’s numbers. The regional ports have seen a surge in handling of grain and oil-yielding crops (3,119,135 tons).
Meanwhile, cement imports volume from the ports of Turkey shrank 51.3% from last year’s results, to 134.242 tons.
The Azov-Don State Basin Waterways and Shipping Department is responsible for safe traffics via Don River from Tsimlyansk Reservoir to the Azov Sea (save, the Constantine and Nikolaev waterworks facility), and the Azov-Don canal in the north-eastern part of Taganrog Bay. In addition, ADSB Department is responsible for shipping in the tributaries of the Don - the rivers Seversky Donets and Manich. The total waterways length in responsibility of ADSB is 800 km. In 2009 freight volumes through the ports of Azov-Don Basin gained 9% to 20.781 million tons.
