The documents were provided by the State Customer Administration of Maritime Transport Development Programs. The study was developed by Morstroy CJSC that recommended the seaport to be placed in the vicinity of Cape North (Peninsula Balga).
The new port is projected to transship via its 43 cargo berths nearly 131.5 million tons of containerized, bulked and Ro-Ro cargo annually.
Russian Ministry of Transport reported it had considered the building of a deepwater port on the peninsula Balga in the Kaliningrad region. The Ministry also said that private companies had been offered to relocate their facilities to the territory of the new port. The new port project may turn successful if it operates as a hub port, receiving ocean-going container ships. Read more about the project on PortNews, "Relevant Topic", September 16, 2009.
