1,5 tons of HFO leak into the Onega lake waters

Oil slick formed from fuel oil that leaked into the waters of Lake Onega in Karelia from a Petrozavodskmash’s boiler has covered the area of about 150 square meters, RBC reports referring to the regional Emergency Ministry department. The volume of fuel oil released into the waters was reportedly at 1.5 tons.

During the last days the emergency team installed booms, prepared a trench for collection of oil slick at the shoreline. To date, over 70 cub. meters of oily liquids have been collected and removed.

The fuel oil spill occurred on Sunday. On July 5th, the leakage was eliminated.

Petrozavodskmash CJSC, a member of the state-owned Rosatom Corp., is the largest engineering enterprise in the Russia’s North-West. The company supplies equipment for nuclear, petrochemical, and pulp and paper, industry.
