Wadan Yards Okean (Ukraine) starts building tugs for Nibulon JV

Wadan Yards Okean (Nikolaev, Ukraine) has started construction of the head tug boat of a series of 12 vessels ordered by Nibulon JV LLC. Equipment supply contracts have been signed for the first six ships of POSS-115 Project tugs, the shipowner statement said.

According to Nibulon company, Mitsubishi main engines will be supplied by Dutch company Midif Diesel. In addition, the contract was signed with German’s GEA Westfalia Separator Systems GmbH for the supply of fuel centrifugal separators. The Dutch Marine Trading will supply equipment for the tug’s deck outfit. Also, the Dutch Alewijnse Marine System will ensure the supply of electricity, radio and navigational equipment.

Nibulon JV LLC increased its investment program fund for the coming years to $470 million (vs $150m announced in 2009). The shipbuilding program provides for the establishment of the company’s own fleet of 57 self-propelled vessels and non-self-propelled barges (previously - 24 vessels), 14 sea and river tug boats, 17 elevators, 10 of them - river terminals along the Dnieper, Southern Bug River and other rivers. So far, 24 self-propelled vessel, and 3 tugs have been built.
