Russia to pass the bill for foreign yachts calls by this fall

The bill on the opening of inland waterways of Russia for foreign yachts arrivals is expected to be introduced at Russian State Duma this fall, PortNews IAA correspondent reports quoting Nadezhda Nazina, the head of Department of Tourism and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy. Mrs. Nazian was speaking at the 2nd International Conference GlobalPort-2010 in St. Petersburg.

At the same time, according to Anatoly Yarochkin, the head of the Federal Tourism Agency of Russia who attended the conference, the Russian inland waterways infrastructure is not prepared for the foreign yachts navigation.

In December 2009 Maritime Collegium of the Russian government endorsed the initiative of the Russian Sailing Federation (RSF) to simplify procedures for foreign tourist boats sailing on inland waters of Russia. Currently, Russia has a rather complicated procedure for foreign-flagged sports and recreational vessels to navigate in the territorial waters of Russia.
