Indonesia to offer LNG to Singapore's terminal

Indonesia will offer liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Singapore's planned receiving terminal as the country has excess capacity of the super-cooled gas, an official at energy watchdog BPMIGAS said on Friday.
"We believe we will still have excess capacity of LNG for Singapore's terminal. We will offer it to them but we haven't decided the volume we will offer," the BPMIGAS official, who declined to be identified, told Reuters.
Indonesia's government said last month it wanted to renegotiate the terms of its natural gas supply contract with Singapore because it wants to keep more gas for the domestic market. Indonesia has a long-term supply deal with financial centre Singapore for 700 billion British thermal unit per day.
The $1.05 billion Singapore LNG terminal project will be ready by early 2013 after a delay due to the financial crisis when the original consortium dropped out, and would enable the city-state to position itself as an LNG hub.
The terminal will have an initial capacity of 3.5 million tonnes per year (tpy), with provisions to expand it to 6.0 million or more if needed.
BPMIGAS' vice chairman Hardiono has previously said Indonesia, the world's third-biggest LNG exporter after Qatar and Malaysia, will have 68 excess cargoes of LNG in 2011 and plans to seek buyers in Asia.
