Rosmorport OKs Sochi Port’s waterworks renovation project

Project documentation to enhance the hydraulic structures at the cargo area of Sochi seaport at the mouth of the river Mzymta, developed by Marine Construction and Technology LLC, was approved by Rosmorport’s order on May 31, 2010 (NAD-140-p), the Rosmorport’s Sochi branch press release said.

The waterworks structures will be reinforced to withstand significant waves and to protect the harbor from waves 10-m high. The implementation of the project will enhance the safety of navigation while delivering cargoes for construction of the Olympics facilities and operations of the port infrastructure.

The construction of the seaport at the mouth of the river Mzmyta is being conducted in accordance with the program of construction of the Olympics facilities, approved by Resolution of the Russian government. Sochi port’s cargo area is designed for delivery of cargo during the period of Olympic construction, with its further reconstruction into a yacht marina. The designed capacity of the cargo area is 5 million tons of cargo a year. Maximum berths’ depth is 9,2 m.
