During the Coordinating Council of the Ministry for Transport and Communications, held in Inhassoro, Inhambane province, Adelino Mesquita noted that the study, which is funded by Japan, was a result of difficulties at the port of Nacala in handling large amounts of cargo.
Mesquita said that the study, which should take two years, aimed to increase the efficiency and capacity of handling cargo, as well as indicating the most advantageous modes chosen by investors to transport cargo, specifically mining products.
The CEO of state company Cfm did not give a figure for the investment needed to improve operation of the port noting only that large sums of money would be needed, taking into account the proposals of the projects for mining that are awaiting improvements at the port.
Mesquita also said that the Sena railroad, in the Beira Corridor, would be delivered next September, with finishing work currently underway that includes construction of three small bridges, opening up aqueducts, regulating ballast, as well as soldering rails over 15 kilometres of line.
The 28th Coordinating Council of the Ministry for Transport and Communications closed with the approval of the plan of action for next year and its respective budget.
