Bulked cargo volume decreased by 10.5%, to 8.62 million tons, liquid cargo dropped by 10.1%, to 2.96 million tons, while general cargo jumped 60.8% to 2.98 million tons, the press release said.
Of total cargo turnover, coal volume surged by 40.1% and oil products – by 20.2%, lumber - by 14.9%, container trade increased by 8.1%, fertilizer – 4.8%.
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava (Western Dvina), the total area of the port – 6.348 ha, length of berths – 13.818 m, maximum ship draft at the berths – 12.2 m. Transit cargoes make up 80% of overall freight traffic, carried to / back the CIS countries. Last year’s statistics showed the Port of Riga handled 29.72 million tons, a year-over-year 0.5% growth.
