In January-June, the dry bulk cargo volume – 4,829.735 tons (+35%) contributed to the reporting period results. The numbers include coal and coke volume – 4,209.035 tons (+25% from H1, 2009), other cargo - 620.700 tons (an increase of 5.75 times). General cargo volume totaled 451.407 tons, a 76-percent surge, including ferrous metals - 325.974 tons (+58%). In H1, 2010 ferry cargoes volume dropped by 33% to 296.800 tons, lumber - fell to 99.242 tons (-14%).
In Jan-Jun, there were 640 ship calls at Ust-Luga port (321 inbound + 319 outbound).
Port of Ust-Luga a multi-purpose seaport with projected annual capacity of 170m tons of cargo is located on Russia’s border with the EU. Its 16-m deep harborage and a 3.7-km approach canal make Ust-Luga the major Russian port on the Baltic Sea capable of accommodating ships with a capacity of over 150.000dwt. The port facilities allow handling 75.000-dwt bulkers and 120.000-dwt tankers.
The port has an operating Ust-Luga - Baltiysk rail-ferry service. The launch of an oil terminal for exports of petroleum products has been scheduled for this year. The crude oil and petroleum products will be delivered to the port by railroad. In 2012 Ust Luga Port will become the end point of the Baltic Pipeline System 2 (BPS-2).
In 2009 the Ust Luga port handled 10.3 million tons of cargoes and 1.031 ships (517 inbound and 514 outbound).
