Port of Helsinki’s throughput down 11% in H1, to 5,37m tons

Trade flows via Port of Helsinki (Finland) in the first half of this year fell 11% compared with January-June last year, to 5.37 million tons, the Port Authority press release said.
Of overall freight traffic exports gained 16% to 2,392,000 tons, imports rose by 13%, to 2,444,000 tons.

Six-month container volume grew by 12%, to 196,500 TEUs, Ro-Ro cargoes were up 10% over the same period in 2009, to 234,100 units.
There were 3,804 ship calls at the Port of Helsinki in H1, 2010, 10% less than in H1, 2009.

Port of Helsinki is one of the largest seaports in Finland. In 2009 the Port posted a 21-percent throughput decline y-o-y, to 8.6 million tons.
