Erik Ringmaa, Commercial Director of the Port of Tallinn says the Port of Tallinn is currently negotiating with more than five enterprises on the matter.
The Port of Tallinn expects container traffic to be increased in the near future.
The new infrastructure was completed with the help of EU support, the Port Authority said. Overall project costs made up nearly a billion EEK, including buildup of 20 hectares of coastline filled with soil, deepening work was conducted and a new 378 meters long quay was built that is ready to receive big ocean ships.
The new 14.5-m-deep quay at Muuga is the second of its kind in the Eastern part of the Baltic Sea besides the Gdansk port, which can service very big ships.
The new terminal infrastructure capacity allows handling up to 350,000 TEUs of containers annually. Last year, Muuga port’s container throughput amounted to 131,000 TEUs.
