Cosco doubles throughput via Rotterdam in 2010

According to president Wei Jifafu of container operator Cosco, his company this year unloads 80% of its cargo in Rotterdam and 20% in Hamburg. Last year the division was 40% and 60%.
He said this last weekend, in the presence of the German chancellor Angela Merkel and the Chinese premier Wen Jiabao during a German-Chinese economic conference in Xian. It supported his plead for deepening the river Elbe and for acquiring a share in the expansion of the port of Hamburg. The port is not prepared to handle the largest container vessels of Cosco, Wei Jifafu criticized. He did not respond directly to the suggestion of Mrs. Merkel to also look at the Wilhelmshaven option. Instead he said that Hamburg should be able to keep in the track of Rotterdam or Belgium.
