The company said earlier this year it was reviewing its port lineup and considering shifting calls from New York-New Jersey to Philadelphia or consolidating them at Jacksonville, where it already operates Puerto Rico services. Horizon also has services between San Juan and from the Gulf ports of Houston and Tampa.
Competitor Sea Star Line recently announced it was adding service to San Juan from Philadelphia. Another Puerto Rico carrier, Crowley Maritime, has operated for years from Pennsauken, N.J., across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, in addition to Jacksonville and Port Everglades, Fla., and Gulfport, Miss.
Horizon’s Puerto Rico customers have received letters from the carrier advising that it will continue weekly service from Elizabeth to San Juan, with a 4:30 p.m. Friday cutoff for Friday night sailings. Horizon also said that starting July 29, APM Terminals will offer expedited freight receiving lines for Horizon customers.
