The Russia’s newest strategic submarine built at Sevmash Shipyard (Severodvinsk) returned to Severodvinsk after two-week sea trials in the White Sea, the Barents Observer reports citing Sevmash press release.
During the period the crew was testing the submarine’s navigation, buoyancy systems and also the warship’s combat readiness.
According to Vladimir Prokofiev, the chief builder of military equipment at Sevmash, the tests were completed successfully. The submarine returned to Severodvinsk yesterday.
The Yuri Dolgoruky submarine was launched in February 2008 and has been on sea trials several times since then.
The 170-m-long warship is the first of the 4th generation strategic nuclear powered submarines (SSBN) of the Borey-class, carrying on board a crew of 107.
Russia projected to build at least eight submarines of such class.
