Cargo turnover at Klaipeda port up 14.5% in H1, to 15 million tons

Freight flows through the port of Klaipeda (Lithuania) in January-June rose by 14.4% from H1, 2009, to 15,012,300 tons, the Port Authority said.

Six-month container throughput also gained 14% to 141,000 TEUs.

State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. Currently, there are 17 stevedores, shipyards, other companies operating at the port and providing ranged forwarding and logistics services. Freight traffic volume via Klaipeda port in 2009 fell by 6.3%, to 27,866 million tons.
