Daewoo Shipbuilding bags a $1.2bn order from NOL, for 10 box-ships

South Korea-based Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. won a $1.2bn order from the Singapore shipping and logistics company Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) to build 10 new 8.400 TEU container ships, the company’s press release said.
 
The box-ships are scheduled to be delivered in 2013-2014. The S.Korean shipbuilder and NOL have also signed a letter of intent for building two 10,700 TEU container ships.

In 2010 Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME), a South Korean shipbuilding company received orders worth $3.9bn. The company’s total portfolio of orders is some $35 billion. Overall, Daewoo Shipbuilding plans to bag orders worth $6 billion this year.

Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), a Singapore-based container line and the terminal operator. The global leader in container transportation has 11,000 employees working in 140 countries. The NOL Group operates under the brands APL, APL Terminals and APL Logistics. NOL’s net loss for the year 2009 totaled $741m compared with a net income a year earlier.
