In August 2009, the icebreaker Capitan Dranitsyn participated in an expedition of Russian, Norwegian, Canadian and German scientists. The international team conducted comprehensive survey of the ocean floor in the seas of Spitsbergen, Kara, Barents and Laptev to collect information about the formation of current climate changes in the Arctic.
