Norilsk Nickel’s vessel transports its first million tons of cargo

The Norisky Nickel flagship of Norilsk Nickel JSC called and offloaded today at the Port of Rotterdam its first million ton the vessel has transported since her launch in April 2006, the company press release said.

The diesel-powered Monchegorsk ship, launched two years ago, also has carried 453.500 tons of cargo, in 49 voyages.

Overall, since 2006 MMC Norilsk Nickel’s ships transported some 2.5 million tons of various cargoes, including 250,000 tons of exported steel products.

During this time, arctic container ships of MMC Norilsk Nickel have made 270 voyages, four winter navigation without icebreakers escort. There have been 135 calls at Dudinskiy seaport of the company’s vessels.

The company’s fleet includes five ice-class ships. The Norilsk Nickel’s fleet shipbuilding project cost was some €400 million.
 
According to the director of the Murmansk transport subsidiary of Norilsk Nickel, Alexei Tyukavin, "To date, successful operations of new vessels allowed us to establish year-round regular services linking the ports of Murmansk, Archangel and Dudinka, as well as to start European service lines, fully ensuring the company's needs in seaborne shipments on these directions”.
