This October the stevedore handled 1,354,000 tons of cargo, the port’s provisional data said.
The strongest October results were demonstrated in the segment of imported cars, which soared 4,5 times as much month-over-month, the ore volume jumped twofold, ferry cargoes surged by 87.2%, transshipment of meal rose by 73.3%, sulfur - by 55,4%, edible oil - by 24.5%, pig iron - by 21.6%.
Container throughput in October increased by 10.7% m-o-m, to 31,100 twenty foot equivalent units. Ten-month container volume rose 16% from the same period a year earlier, to 243,100 TEUs.
State-owned Sea Commercial Port of Illichivsk (Ilyichevsk) is among the four largest Ukrainian ports. The company’s handling facilities allow transshipment of over 30 million tons of cargo a year. The port manages and operates the 6-km-long quay wall with 29 berths. In 2009, the SCPI’s throughput shrank by 13.8% year-over-year, to 16.286 million tons.
