The Ministry of Transport of Ukraine plans to reduce the time spent for inspection of containers passing through at the ports Ilyichevsk and Odessa, the Ministry press office said.
The Ministry formed a working group headed by Deputy Transport Minister Oleg Bondar that should be monitoring how much time the customs and border control agencies spent for inspection of one container in Odessa and Ilyichevsk ports. The ad hoc group includes representatives of the Ministry of Transport, of the country’s ports, the State Customs Service, Security Service of Ukraine, the Interior Ministry, sanitary and quarantine services, and other regulatory authorities, who are in charge of inspections of containers at the ports.
"We will stop the practice, when the containers at the ports are piled up due to overabundance of inspections by various regulatory authorities. Container traffic is the future of the industry and we will bring the future", the Minister of Transport and Communications of Ukraine Konstantin Efimenko was quoted as saying.
According to the results of the working group proposals will be introduced to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to streamline goods control procedures in the domestic seaports. The team of specialists begins working at the ports next week.
Konstantine Efimenko’s decision to establish an ad hoc commission on facilitating control procedures at seaports was triggered by numerous complaints filed by the state-owned and private business. This initiative was endorsed by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
