Hamburg Sud christens container ship in Callao, Peru

Offical christening ceremony of the Cap Jervis was held by Hamburg Süd in Callao (Peru) on Monday, 8 November 2010. The Cap Jervis is the first container vessel ever to have been christened in Callao. The vessel has a slot capacity of 4,600 TEU. Sponsor of the "Cap Jervis" was Adelgunde Christmann, wife of Dr Albert Christmann, Chairman of the Executive Board of Radeberger Gruppe KG, Hamburge Süd press release said.

Ship specifications: LOA: 264 m; length bp: 251 m; breadth: 32.2 m; draft max.: 13.5 m; capacity: 58,350 tdw, container capacity: 4,600 TEU, reefer container plugs:    516; speed: 22.5 kn; main engine output: 36,560 kW

The Cap Jervis was delivered in July 2010 at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME) in Korea. Since then she has been deployed in Hamburg Süd's service between Asia and Mexico/South America West Coast (ASPA Service).

The "Cap Jervis" was named after a location in South Australia, approximately 100 kilometres south of Adelaide.
